Our Editorial Mission

At Petsy, we believe every Australian pet owner deserves access to accurate, easy-to-understand information about pet health and pet insurance. Our content is designed to help you make informed decisions about protecting your furry family members.

We know that pet insurance and pet health information falls into the category of content that can significantly impact your financial wellbeing and your pet’s care. That’s why we hold ourselves to the highest editorial standards and are transparent about how we create, review, and maintain our content.

1. Who Creates Our Content

Our content is created by a dedicated in-house editorial team with expertise in pet care, insurance, and consumer finance. Our team includes:

  1. Pet Insurance Specialists: Team members with direct experience in the Australian pet insurance industry who understand policy structures, claims processes, and coverage nuances.
  2. Content Writers: Experienced writers who specialise in making complex insurance and health topics accessible and easy to understand for all pet owners.
  3. Veterinary Consultants: For pet health content, including our breed guides, we consult with qualified veterinary professionals to ensure medical accuracy.

2. Our Editorial Process

Research & Creation

Every piece of content we publish follows a structured creation process:

  1. Topic research using authoritative sources (veterinary literature, breed registries, industry data)
  2. Content drafting by subject matter experts
  3. Internal editorial review for accuracy, clarity, and completeness
  4. Veterinary review for health-related content
  5. Final quality check before publication

Expert Review

Content that includes pet health information, breed-specific health conditions, or medical topics is reviewed by veterinary professionals. Our expert reviewers hold relevant qualifications (DVM or equivalent) and have practical experience in companion animal care. When an article has been reviewed by a veterinary expert, this is clearly indicated on the page.

3. Our Sources

We are committed to using reliable, authoritative sources. These include:

  1. Veterinary & Medical Sources: Peer-reviewed veterinary journals, veterinary teaching hospital resources, and Australian Veterinary Association guidelines.
  2. Breed Organisations: Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC), breed-specific clubs, and international breed registries for breed characteristic and health information.
  3. Industry Data: Our own anonymised claims data, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) reports, and industry research.
  4. Government Sources: Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), state and territory animal welfare legislation, and relevant regulatory bodies.

When we cite information from external sources, we aim to link directly to the original source so you can verify information yourself.

4. Keeping Content Current

Pet health research evolves, insurance products change, and regulations are updated. We are committed to maintaining accurate, up-to-date information through:

  1. Regular Reviews: We conduct periodic audits of our content to ensure information remains accurate and relevant.
  2. Date Transparency: Articles display publication and/or last reviewed dates so you know how current the information is.
  3. Policy Updates: When our insurance products or coverage changes, we update relevant content promptly.
  4. Industry Monitoring: Our team monitors changes in veterinary guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

5. Corrections Policy

We take accuracy seriously. If we discover an error or you alert us to an issue with our content, we take immediate action:

  1. Investigation: Our editorial team investigates the reported issue promptly.
  2. Correction: If an error is confirmed, we correct the content as quickly as possible.
  3. Transparency: For significant corrections, we note that the article has been updated.
  4. Feedback Welcome: We encourage readers to contact us if they spot potential inaccuracies, outdated information, or areas for improvement.

To report an error or provide feedback on our content, please email us at [email protected].

6. Editorial Independence

While Petsy is a pet insurance provider, our educational content is created to genuinely help pet owners, whether or not they choose Petsy for their insurance needs.

  1. Honest Information: We provide balanced information about pet insurance, including what’s covered and what’s not, so you can make informed decisions.
  2. No Hidden Agendas: Our pet health and breed content is created to educate, not to push products. We clearly distinguish between educational content and promotional material.
  3. Transparent Relationships: Where we have commercial relationships that may be relevant to content, we disclose them.

7. Use of AI & Technology

We may use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, or content optimisation. However:

  1. All AI-assisted content is reviewed and edited by our human editorial team.
  2. Health-related content is always reviewed by qualified veterinary professionals.
  3. Final editorial decisions are made by humans, not algorithms.
  4. We never publish AI-generated content without human oversight and verification.

8. Our Content Standards

Every piece of content we publish should be:

  1. Accurate: Based on reliable sources and verified facts.
  2. Clear: Written in plain language that’s easy to understand.
  3. Helpful: Providing genuine value to pet owners.
  4. Current: Reflecting the latest information and best practices.
