Best choice for my kitten!!!!

My little kitten, named Mey, got FIP a month ago and stayed in the ICU for over a week. Luckily, I bought Petsy insurance for him after doing extensive research. There's no sub-limit, and despite the pre-existing condition report showing which illnesses aren't covered (most of which can be reviewed after one year, except for cat flu), everything has been good. The claiming process is easy, and I've already claimed back over $12k after submitted claim and processed only in 3 days. I'm still in the process of claiming back for prescription costs 🙂 (luckily, I chose a limit up to $25k). I want to thank Alex, Fiona, Michelle, and the Petsy team for helping me with the claiming process. I highly recommend Petsy to everyone.

Excellent value and service

Annie was informative and helpful, a delight to interact with and obviously someone who shares a passion for animals. I felt that I was given a thorough understanding of the products Petsy offers and had no unanswered questions. I feel that the policy I purchased is of good value and I will be more than happy to recommend Petsy to friends and family. I also hope that Petsy recognises and values Annie's representation of your values

Taking the stress out of pet insurance

I cannot fault Petsy for anything. From the beginning all our claims have been handled quickly (within a week)- from the ease of making claims online, to their review and deposit of claim amount back to my bank account. Any requests for assistance have been provided in a timely manner. I’ve also received calls from them just to check in and see how Sammy is doing and to offer support or advice if needed. I recommend them to everyone who asks me about pet insurance. I have been with Petsy for 15 months and plan to stay with them for many more years.

What is pet insurance?

Pet insurance can help to reimburse you for eligible vet costs if your kitten unexpectedly gets injured as a result of an accident or if they suffer an illness.

Why consider pet insurance for kittens?

It’s no secret that kittens love exploring the world around them and testing their limits. Frequently asked questions on Kitten Insurance

Pet Insurance is a form of insurance available to pet owners to help cover their kitten for unexpected injuries and illnesses, by reimbursing a portion of the veterinary costs to treat their kitten.

Pet insurance acts as a financial safety net, helping cover unexpected veterinary costs if your kitten needs treatment. Some medical vet expenses can run into the tens of thousands, and having a pet insurance plan can significantly reduce the financial burden and stress if the unexpected happens.

Costs for a kitten insurance policy can range between $30-$200 a month on average, depending on the age, breed, location, gender and coverage options selected.

Opting for a higher level of coverage, by choosing higher benefit percentage, higher annual limit or lower excess will result in a higher monthly premium.

Lower coverage options, such as a lower benefit percentage, lower annual limit, or higher excess will result in a lower monthly premium.

Starting your pet insurance when your kitten is young and healthy can help to maximise your coverage in the long term as it can minimise the chances of your kitten having any pre-existing conditions when you start your policy. The minimum entry age for pets for you to start a new policy with Petsy is 6 weeks.

With Petsy Pet Insurance, the range of protection for your pet stays the same no matter which benefit percentage, annual limit, or annual excess you pick.

  • There are no sub-limits on claimable conditions.
  • You can adjust coverage options to fit your budget without losing coverage on the types of injuries or illnesses.

You also have two additional customisable options to make your policy right for your pet:

  • Optional Extra Benefits for Pets Under 3 Years Old
If your pet is under 3 years old when you start a new policy, you can choose to add coverage for extras like dental illness, behavioural conditions, and specialised therapies. This is optional, so you can include it or skip it.
  • Vet Consultations
You decide whether to include vet consultations related to injuries or illnesses in your plan. If you don’t include this option, vet consultations won’t be covered—even in emergencies.

Petsy Pet Insurance covers almost every type of injury, illness or condition unless it is specifically listed as not covered. This is why it’s important to know what’s not covered by pet insurance.

When reading the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for Petsy Pet Insurance, the Summary of Benefits section refers to what’s covered, and the Summary of Exclusions section details what’s not covered under the policy.

Your pet insurance policy might come in handy if, for example, your pet accidentally breaks a bone, or gets hurt by a car, or accidentally swallows something they shouldn’t have.

Having a pet insurance policy in place can help you to cover a portion of these unexpected costs, making it easier for you to access veterinary treatments for your pet without money being the sole deciding factor.

Petsy Pet Insurance helps cover the cost of unexpected vet bills when your kitten faces an injury or illness. Once any exclusion periods are over and as long as it isn’t a pre-existing condition, you can be reimbursed for 80% or 90% of eligible vet costs—making it easier to get the care your kitten needs.

Customise Your Policy
With Petsy, you can customise your policy to suit your kitten’s needs and your budget. You’ll be able to choose:

  • Benefit Percentage: How much of the eligible vet bill you’d like reimbursed for approved claims (80% or 90%).
  • Annual Limit & Excess: Set your yearly coverage limit and excess amount. We only offer an annual excess, not a per condition or per claim excess.
  • Optional Extras: If your kitten is under 3 years old, you can add coverage for things like dental illness, behavioural conditions, and specialised therapies.
  • Vet Consultations: Include or exclude coverage for vet consult fees related to injuries or illnesses.

Getting started is simple—get an online quote, and then confirm purchase of your policy. Once you’ve made your payment, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all your policy documents, and you can enjoy transparent coverage with a complimentary pre-existing condition assessment. Claims are hassle-free and can be submitted by your vet, with approved reimbursements paid directly to your bank account.

With Petsy, your kitten is covered for almost any unexpected injury, illness, or condition—unless it’s specifically listed as not covered. That’s why it’s helpful to know both what’s included and what’s excluded in your policy.

Petsy Pet Insurance is designed to protect your pet against the unexpected, once your exclusion periods are over. While pre-existing conditions and routine care like vaccinations, desexing, and regular check-ups aren’t covered, here’s a snapshot of what is covered:

Common injuries and illnesses we cover (with no sub-limits):

✅ Emergency vet visits
✅ Cancer treatment
✅ Surgeries (like broken bones or swallowing objects)
✅ Hip and elbow dysplasia
✅ Tick paralysis
✅ Poisoning
✅ Snake bites
✅ Skin conditions
✅ Ear and eye problems
✅ Hereditary conditions
✅ And so much more.

Optional extras you can add:

✅ Dental illness (dental illness and disease, like periodontal disease and gingivitis)
✅ Specialised therapies (like acupuncture and hydrotherapy)
✅ Behavioural conditions (like anxiety and destructive chewing)

With Petsy, you can relax knowing your kitten is protected for the unexpected—whether it’s a broken bone, eating something toxic or developing an illness.

Why pet insurance matters:
Having a policy means you’re covered for a portion of these costs, so you can focus on getting the care your kitten needs without financial stress being the deciding factor.

Kittens are curious, playful, and known for being a little mischievous during their early years, which can mean more unexpected trips to the vet. Kitten insurance can help cover the costs of unexpected injuries, illnesses, or emergencies, giving you peace of mind that you can afford the care your kitten needs without the financial stress.

With pet insurance, you’ll be reimbursed for a portion of eligible vet bills (usually 80% or 90%), so you’re prepared for the unexpected—like a broken bone, swallowing something they shouldn’t, or developing a health condition. Plus, Petsy Pet Insurance offers optional extras for pets younger than 3 years old which helps to cover things like dental illness and disease, which can be helpful as your kitten grows.

Choosing kitten insurance early can help your kitten get covered before any health issues arise, giving your furry family member the best chance in starting their life and maximising your coverage.

When picking the right insurance for your kitten, here are some key things to think about:

What’s Covered: Look for a policy that protects your kitten against common injuries, illnesses, and emergencies. Some plans also offer optional extras like coverage for dental illness and disease, which can be helpful for kittens as they grow up.

Customisation: Choose a policy that lets you adjust things like how much of the vet bill is reimbursed (80% or 90%), your annual limit, and excess. This flexibility can help you find a balance between coverage and cost.

Pre-Existing Conditions: Pet insurance usually doesn’t cover health issues your kitten had before your policy starts. A provider like Petsy Pet Insurance offers a complimentary pre-existing condition assessment upfront, so you know what’s covered and what’s not covered.

Ease of Claims: Make sure the claim process is simple. With Petsy, even your vet can submit claims for you, and approved reimbursements go directly to your bank account.

Transparency: Choose a provider that’s clear about what’s included and excluded, so there are less surprises at claim time.

Ultimately, the best insurance helps you focus on your kitten’s health without the financial burden of unexpected vet bills. Start with a provider that offers flexibility, transparency, and great support.

Kittens are at a stage in life where their health and wellbeing can be unpredictable. From early illnesses to accidents caused by their playful curiosity, unexpected vet visits can quickly add up. Pet insurance provides a financial safety net, so you can confidently care for your kitten if something goes wrong.

Beyond accidents and illnesses, insurance helps you prepare for the unexpected without dipping into savings or delaying treatment. It’s a smart way to protect both your budget and your kitten’s future, giving them the best chance of treatment and care.

The best kitten insurance is one that fits your needs and budget, provides extensive coverage for common injuries and illnesses in unexpected situations.

A good provider should be transparent, and clearly outlines what’s covered and excluded, and helps to support you and your pet if things don’t go to plan. It should also offer customisation, allowing you to adjust factors like reimbursement percentage, annual limits, and optional extras such as dental illness or behavioural issues. Finally, it should offer an easy and efficient claims process, ideally with support from your vet, which ensures that getting reimbursed is simple and stress-free, so you can focus on what matters most – caring for your pet.

As your kitten grows, their playful and curious personality will shine, but their needs will also change over time. Keeping an eye on their health and wellbeing will help them grow into a happy, healthy cat.

  • Vet visits: Annual check-ups are essential to monitor their growth and catch any potential issues early. These visits are also a great time to talk about topics such as diet, desexing, parasite prevention, and dental care with your vet.
  • Behaviour changes: Cats often calm down as they age, but sudden changes like avoiding the litter box or hiding more than usual can signal stress or behavioural disorder.
  • Home checks: Keep an eye out for any lumps, bumps, or changes in their coat, eyes, or ears.
  • Starting pet insurance early can give you the best coverage as it helps to minimise exclusions for pre-existing conditions. Review your policy regularly to make sure it suits your cat’s changing needs as they grow.

By staying proactive, you’ll help set your kitten up for a long and happy life.

Petsy Pet Insurance offers dental coverage as part of our Optional Extra Benefits, but you need to apply for Optional Extra Benefits when your pet is under the age of three. This coverage includes treatment for dental illnesses and diseases, such as gingivitis, abscesses, and periodontal disease. However, it does not cover routine or elective dental procedures, such as teeth cleaning.

Eligibility: Dental coverage is available for pets younger than 3 years old at the time of applying for Optional Extra Benefits.

Extensive Coverage: There are no sub-limits on treatment costs or vet expenses related to dental illnesses when selected as part of Optional Extra Benefits.

Part of a Bundle: Dental coverage is included in our Optional Extra Benefits, which also includes Specialised Therapies and Behavioural Conditions.

Pre-existing Conditions: Coverage does not apply to pre-existing conditions. Pets over three years of age are more likely to have pre-existing conditions relating to dental issues, which is why this benefit is only available for pets before they reach three years of age, at the time of applying for Optional Extra Benefits.

At Petsy, the price stays the same whether your cat is an indoor snuggler or an outdoor explorer. Injuries and illnesses can happen anywhere, so we offer one policy to cover them, no matter their lifestyle.

If you start a policy for your kitten before their first birthday, we’ll also give an annual limit bonus at no extra cost—extra 20% if you start before they’re 6 months old, or extra 10% if you start between 6 months and 1 year old.

It’s our way of providing your kitten with extra protection as they grow.

Making a claim with Petsy is quick and easy. A pet insurance claim is how you apply for reimbursement for vet bills covered by your policy.
Here’s how it works:

Visit the Vet
If your cat gets sick or injured, take them to the vet for treatment. After the visit, you’ll receive an invoice detailing the treatments and costs.

Submit Your Claim
You can send us your claim in two ways:

  • Ask your vet to email the invoice and clinical notes directly to [email protected].
  • Or, email us a clear photo of the paid invoice, including the vet’s details, date, and itemised costs. We’ll contact your vet if we need extra information.

We Process Your Claim
Our team will review your claim and check if it’s covered under your policy. If approved, we’ll reimburse the amount directly into your nominated bank account.

To make the process even smoother, you can:

  • request a pre-existing condition assessment when you start your policy.
  • keep all your vet records and invoices handy.
  • ensure your bank details are up to date for quick payments.

We’ll let you know if we need any extra information along the way. It’s all part of making the claims process as easy as possible for you.

Owning a kitten comes with planned costs such as food, bedding, and vaccinations, but unexpected vet bills can quickly add up if your kitten gets sick or injured. Over a pet’s lifetime, these costs can range from minimal to thousands of dollars, depending on their health and if the unexpected occurs.

Kitten insurance helps cover unexpected vet bills, so you can focus on giving your kitten the care they need without worrying about the cost. Kittens are naturally curious and can be prone to injuries or illnesses. Pet insurance offers a smart way to protect both your pet and your budget.

Starting a policy while your kitten is young can help to minimise pre-existing conditions which helps to maximise your coverage over time. Plus, at Petsy, we reward early starters with a special annual limit bonus if you insure your kitten before their first birthday.

Kitten insurance isn’t just about saving money—it’s about helping your kitten receive the best care and treatment throughout their life as they grow.
