What’s Different
About Petsy Pet
Insurance?

Petsy Pet Insurance works a little differently
to most other pet insurance policies
available. Here’s a few ways how.

Get a quick Pet insurance quote

Who would you like a quote for?

Petsy has NO SUB LIMITS.

Most pet insurance policies in Australia have a number of sub limits.

What Is A
Sub Limit?

Also known as a “condition limit” or “per incident limit”, a sub limit acts as a ceiling limiting claims made on a pet insurance policy per year (period of insurance), for treating certain conditions.

A sub limit adds an extra limit on certain veterinary expenses, common examples including limits on cruciate ligament surgery, hip dysplasia, dental illness and/or vet consultations.

Frame (7)
Having no sub limits means that there will be no extra limits placed on any veterinary expenses if you choose Petsy, enabling you to be able to claim up to (a maximum) of $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000.

Just like most pet insurance policies, cover will start after the applicable Exclusion Period has elapsed. Any Injury, Illness, or Specified Condition that occurs during the applicable Exclusion Period, will also be deemed to be a Pre-existing Condition.

  • 1 Day Exclusion Period for Accidental Injury (except Specified Conditions)
  • 14 days Exclusion Period for Illness (except Specified Conditions)
  • 14 days Exclusion Period for Dental Illness pets under 1 year old (6 months if pet is 1 year or older)
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Specified Conditions and Behavioural Problems

We understand that Your puppy, kitten, dog or cat may be perfectly healthy so, we give Petsy Policyholders the opportunity to reduce most 6 month Exclusion Periods.

Sub Limits are different to an Annual Benefit Limit

Explaining sub limits on specific treatments

With most other pet insurance policies, certain sub limits are placed as monetary caps on specific treatments. If (for example) you chose a pet insurance policy with an annual benefit limit of $10,000 but the Policy had a sub limit of $2,500 for cruciate ligament conditions, you will not be reimbursed more than $2,500 for your pet’s cruciate ligament condition due to the sub limit clause, even though your annual benefit limit is $10,000.

Examples of some common sub limits you will find with most of our competitors

Treatment/Condition Example sub limit
Vet consultation fees $300
Cruciate Ligament $2,600
Hip Joint Surgery $1,200
Emergency Boarding $500
Tick Paralysis $1,000
Skin Conditions $500
Frame (8)
We are proud that Petsy Pet Insurance is, one of the few pet insurance products available with no sub limits.

Once you’ve passed your exclusion period and as long as the condition you’re claiming for is not pre-existing, there are no pay-out limits placed on specific injuries, illnesses or treatment costs. This means that you can claim up to the full annual benefit limit of your choice ($5000, $10,000 or $25,000) and this applies to all the inclusions under your policy, including (commonly) expensive treatments for accidental injuries and illnesses, which are frequently capped with most other pet insurance policies. Common examples of treatments with sub-limits include hip surgery, cruciate ligament surgery, overnight emergency stays and dental illness, if selected as an optional extra.

All Petsy Pet Insurance policies have zero sub limits.

Exclusion periods apply. Please see Pet Insurance explained for more information on Exclusion periods and the list of Specified Conditions which have a 6 month Exclusion period.

Petsy offers Optional Cover for Dental Illness

Most Pet Insurance policies do not offer any dental coverage. Petsy is one of only a few providers in Australia who offers dental coverage.

Dental Illness coverage from Petsy cannot be purchased as a standalone benefit and is available as an optional extra benefit included in our Top Cover or selected as an optional extra benefit on our Custom Cover.

Cover for dental illness includes dental diseases, gingivitis, abscesses and periodontal disease.

Please note that any routine or elective dental procedures such as teeth cleaning are not covered under dental illnesses.

Unlike many of our competitors, there are no sub limits attached to the treatment costs or vet expenses related to dental illnesses if selected as an optional extra.

preventable diseases

Most Pet Insurance will not cover vaccine preventable diseases.
