Loved by pet owners Australia wide.
We had been recommended Petsy by some friends and now we do that same recommending. Great service. We will continue to recommend to others as they have been fantastic for us.

Amazing service and caring people. Couldn't speak more highly of the company and people. Just love our fur babies and they made it so easy for us to have peace of mind that our babies our cared for and protected if anything should ever happen. Seriously can not speak more highly of them. Pet insurance that protects the one you love coming home to.
We all want to have the peace of mind knowing that our furry bundle of joy is able to receive required veterinary treatment if things don’t go to plan. With Petsy Pet Insurance, you can choose an annual limit up to $25,000 to help cover eligible vet costs if your pet runs into an unexpected mishap resulting in an injury or illness. No sub-limits or hidden costs.
What is pet insurance?
Pet insurance helps to reimburse you for eligible vet costs if your pet unexpectantly gets injured as a result of an accident or if they suffer an illness. Having pet insurance can reduce the financial impact that can come with high veterinary costs. Receive 80% or 90% back on eligible vet costs based on your level of cover and after your annual excess.
Why consider pet insurance for adopted pets?
If your pet finds itself in trouble with an accidental injury or illness, having pet insurance can help to cover some of the critical veterinary treatment they need without money being the deciding factor. Pet insurance allows pet owners to budget for their pet's health care and offers peace of mind if an unexpected pet health emergency strikes.
How does Petsy Pet Insurance work?
To help keep things simple, we only offer the one comprehensive pet insurance policy.
You can choose to select the top level of cover which has the available options pre-selected at the highest level.
Alternatively, you can customise the available options to select your preferred level of cover to suit you and your pet. The options available to customise include: the Benefit Percentage, the Annual Limit, Annual Excess as well as the option to include or exclude Optional Extra Benefits.
Irrespective of whether you select the top level of cover or choose to customise, the policy provides cover for the treatment of accidental injuries and illnesses that may occur in your pet's life, however cover for dental illnesses, behavioural problems and specialised therapies is only available if you have selected to include the Optional Extra Benefits.
What’s covered and what’s not?
A Petsy Pet Insurance policy is designed to provide cover for a portion (80% or 90%) of the cost of necessary treatment provided to your pet by, or under the supervision of, a vet to relieve or cure an illness or injury. This may include, but is not limited to, hospitalisation, surgery, x-rays, medication, diagnostic tests, nursing and other care and procedures.
There are exclusion periods applicable to different conditions and there are some conditions/illnesses that are not included as standard, but you have an option of including them in your cover. View Optional Extra Benefits.
To help you better understand the coverage, we’ve created the following table to show the types of conditions/illnesses covered where they are not a pre-existing condition, don’t occur during an applicable exclusion period and subject to determining if there are any other exclusions applicable.

FAQs
Information for adopted dogs and cats
Shelters across Australia take in thousands of abandoned animals each year and adopting a pet can be one of the most rewarding ways to give an animal a second chance at finding their forever home.
Adopting a pet not only saves pets lives but every adopted pet makes space for another pet to be rescued. If you’re planning on obtaining pet insurance for your new companion, here’s a few tips (below) to help.
What paperwork do I need, if I'm obtaining pet insurance for an adopted dog or cat?
No paperwork is required to apply for pet insurance, however paperwork is required when you submit your first claim. The paperwork required will vary, depending on where you adopted your pet from.
Pets adopted from a shelter
When you make your first claim, we will ask for a copy of your pet’s adoption papers or adoption certificate from the shelter. Your pet’s medical history may also be required. You can ask us to obtain a copy of your pet’s vet history for you. We’ll need a list of the vets that your pet has visited since you’ve adopted your pet.
Your pet was given to you by a family member or friend
In these circumstances, you should be able to obtain a copy of the pets medical history from their vet from your family member or friend, for the interval before you became the owner of your pet.
You bought or purchased your pet from another owner
In these circumstances, we will require proof of the transfer (such as a receipt or transaction details between you and the previous owner). In some circumstances the vet history is waived from the date of the transfer of ownership.
Do I need paperwork to apply for a new pet insurance policy?
We will not require paperwork when applying for new pet insurance, regardless of where the pet was adopted from.
How do I get a copy of my pet’s vet history?
We can help to contact the pets prior vets (on your behalf). If this is required please email [email protected] with the following information:
- Your Full Name
- Your Policy Number
- Your Pet’s Name
- Details of all vet clinics and/or hospitals your pet has been to, including the name of the practice and the postcode
What if I don't know my pet’s breed?
If a pet was handed into a rescue shelter as a stray, it’s possible the shelter doesn't have a record of the pet’s age or breed. You can ask the shelter for their best estimate, obtain a pet DNA test or take your pet to be examined by a registered vet to determine their breed. If you’re still not sure, you can type in “unknown cat breed” or “unknown dog breed” when filling in your details in order to obtain a quote.
What if I don't know my pet’s birthday?
If you don’t know your pet’s exact date of birth, please use your best estimate. You can also take your pet to be examined by a registered vet to determine their age.
Considerations when getting pet insurance for adopted dogs and cats
We require details of all medical conditions, injuries or illnesses the pet has had before the start of cover under the policy and details of all medical conditions during an applicable waiting period.
Petsy Pet Insurance, like most pet insurance policies, exclude Pre-existing Conditions, which means there is no cover for vet costs associated with the treatment of a Pre-existing Condition.
Unlike private health insurance for humans, medical conditions that arose when covered by one pet insurance provider are generally not covered by another provider, if you decide to switch between pet insurance companies. You can read more about pre-existing conditions here.
