About Canstar

Canstar is Australia’s original & biggest financial comparison site and compares more brands than any other. Their purpose is to simplify the world of finance and help consumers confidently find the right product for them.

What do Canstar Experts look for?

Canstar’s Pet Insurance Awards recognise the providers delivering outstanding value pet insurance products to Australian consumers.

What are the Canstar Pet Insurance Awards?

The Awards for Outstanding Value Pet Insurance recognises the performance of insurers’ Accident and Illness policies using certain consumer profiles.

What are the Canstar Pet Insurance Star Ratings?

Canstar uses a sophisticated and unique ratings methodology to come up with Canstar Pet Insurance Star Ratings that help customers compares both price and features across pet insurance products. Canstar Star Ratings apply to a shortlist of products, enabling consumers to narrow their search to products that have been assessed and ranked.

To determine the winners, policies with pet insurance accident & illness coverage, and policies with accident & illness with routine care coverage are assessed using Canstar’s sophisticated and unique ratings methodology. In recent years, Canstar’s researchers have observed a rise in breed-specific exclusions, leading to more restricted and complex pet insurance coverage, making it crucial for pet owners to carefully review the Product Disclosure Statements (PDS) and consult with insurers to ensure their pets’ specific health needs are adequately covered. Canstar’s Star Ratings are designed to help Australians narrow down and choose the product that is right for them.

How is Canstar different from other financial comparison sites?

  • They compare more brands. With 820 financial services organisations’ brands available for comparison, they include not only the big, well-known brands but also a range of providers that may be less familiar or unavailable through certain channels, many of which offer outstanding value.
  • They are experts in finance. With over 25 years of experience comparing financial products and services, the team prides itself on having finance industry professionals embedded throughout the business.
  • They uncover outstanding value, not just the lowest price. By building their Star Ratings specifically for consumers, they evaluate products based on both price and features. This approach ensures they identify what represents exceptional value for consumers, which isn’t always the cheapest option.
  • They put consumers first. This commitment is reflected in their practices, such as maintaining a clear separation between their sales team and their research and editorial teams, and providing transparency about how they generate revenue.
