Maltese have a beautiful coat that sheds a very minimal amount only. But still, they need regular grooming and brushing to keep their coat healthy and clean. Their coat easily gets dirty, so an occasional bath will helo maintain their coat.
It doesn't take so much effort to groom them.
Clean and brush the Maltese's coat on a regular basis, even though they have a sporty short haircut. This helps to keep him clean and prevents mats. Despite their beauty, Maltese get muddy quickly and must be bathed at least once a week.
Trim their nails once or twice a month if your dog doesn't wear them down naturally to prevent painful tears and other problems. Their ears should be checked weekly for redness or a bad odour, indicating an infection. Your careful weekly exam will help you spot potential health problems early.
Make grooming a pleasant experience for them, complete with encouragement and treats, and you'll be paving the way for simple vet assessments and other handling when they are older.
