Italian Spinone should be fed 2 to 3 cups of high-quality dry food, split into two meals. However, it varies depending on their age. It is best to monitor their diet and consult their vet for more recommendation. Provide them safe and clean water at all times to keep them hydrated, especially that they are active dogs and plays a lot.
Italian Spinone has a wiry-haired and single coat that sheds moderately. Regular brushing will be needed to ensure that their coat is always clean, especially that their shaggy coat tend to drag in debris from outdoors. Bathe them occasionally or whenever needed to help maintain their coat.
Grooming them only takes you a few minutes each week. Brush them weekly with a rubber grooming mitt or a brush with short, natural bristles. A fine-toothed flea comb helps remove loose or dead hair. Their undercoat may come out in little thuds.
Regular brushing will help keep shedding under control. They shouldn't need a bath more than every month or two with regular brushing. Ears are an important area to check when you are grooming them, so if you smell an odour or see wax, clean the inner ear with a cotton ball, using a cleaner recommended by your veterinarian.
Your careful weekly assessment will help you recognise potential health problems shortly.
Italian Spinone is ''low octane'' compared to other sporting breeds. They need more than 2 hours of daily exercise. Hiking or walking is always a good idea for their activity, but it must not be done every day.
You need a large, protected, fenced backyard for your Spinone and give them productive playtime to keep them active and happy.
Schedule health checkups with your veterinarian every six months to ensure that they are safe and happy throughout their life. At these visits, the doctor will do a physical inspection, take your dog's temperature, and track his heartbeat, among other things.
Routine dog care allows you to track your dog's growth and development and address any issues with your veterinarian.
Italian Spinone dogs can get along nicely with all the family members. They make a good family companion because they are naturally sweet and caring house pets. They are docile and adorable dogs that children love. Affectionate as they are, they make them a wonderful addition to the family.
Italian Spinones are intelligent and loyal dogs. The trainer will never struggle in teaching this dog because they are a fast learner. However, they tend to get bored easily and likes to do other things instead.
Keep their training short and creative to keep them interested.
Italian Spinoni are friendly and can be good friends with other dogs and cats if they are raised with them. They sometimes love to chase small pets because of their strong prey drive, but they just need early and proper training to teach them how to play with them. Introduce them at a young age to other pets to make them more used to meeting new friends.
