As with all dogs, the Hamiltonstovare's dietary requirement will change from puppyhood to adulthood and will continue to change into their senior years. Hamiltonstovares are seasonal shedders that only shed low to moderate in the spring and fall. So you'll want to increase your brushing routine to once a day when their shedding picks up in these seasons.
Brush them at least once a week to remove dead hair and keep the skin and coat healthy. Hamiltonstovare also does not drool and rarely have a doggy odour.
Hamiltons require very little grooming and are very easy to keep clean. They are seasonal shedders that only shed low to moderate in the spring and fall. Hamiltonstovare also does not drool and rarely have a doggy odour. A bath once a month and proper nail and dental care is all that is required to keep them looking their best.
Hamiltonstovares are active dogs but, like others, they do have an off switch. They are a highly intelligent breed that enjoys spending time with their owners and doing activities that make them happy.
They're happy to cuddle up on the couch one day and head on a 10-mile walk the next. They need at least a 20-minute free run outside each day, as well as mental stimulation.
And because they are hounds, they will follow their nose, so a securely fenced yard is recommended.
The Hamiltonstovare is prone to some of the same health issues as Harriers and English Foxhounds. Although most are relatively stable, others may be vulnerable to a few health problems, which is why proper treatment and regular veterinarian checkups are important. Schedule a bi-month visit to their vet to ensure that they are in good shape all throughout their life.
The Hamiltonstovare has sweet and friendly behaviour, which makes them a wonderful family pet. They are affectionate, agile, and charming that children love most about them. They tend to form a very close bond with their owner and feel very happy to be with their family.
Hamiltonstovare, being a hunting breed, responds very well to training. They are obedient and calm dogs, so expect that they won't be a burden to you. Finding the thing that motivates a Hamiltonstovare and using it to get them to do what you want is the most important part of teaching them.
Note that they are highly food motivated and loves to do anything about it.
Although Hamiltonstovares get along well with dogs, they will need early and proper socialization to teach them how to behave around other housepets. Hamiltonstovares have a strong hunting instinct, and it is in their nature to hunt smaller animals.
Be careful when introducing them to new faces because they have a strong prey drive and may react differently around them.
