Dobermans should be fed 2 to 4 cups of high-quality dry food a day. The amount of food they will consume varies depending on their height, age, level of exercise, metabolism rate, and overall health.
Monitor closely their food intake to ensure that they don't gain too much weight. Like with other breeds, fresh and clean water should be made available at all times.
While Dobermans have short coats, they shed moderately. You might notice some loose hair around your home. To keep it a minimum, brush them at least once a week. Occasional bath will also help maintain their coat, but bathe them whenever needed.
Grooming Doberman needs minimal effort to keep them clean and healthy. They have a short, smooth hair coat that requires very little grooming. Dobies will need brushing at least once a week to maintain their coat, especially that they shed moderately.
To avoid getting a doggy odour, they should be bathed, but only when it is really needed. Ears are an important area to check when you are grooming them, so if you smell an odour or see wax, clean the inner ear with a cotton ball, using a cleanser recommended by your veterinarian.
Most Dobermans have a fairly high energy level and require plenty of exercise in order to stay healthy. Because of their natural athleticism, a few brisk walks or runs every day will help keep a Doberman in tip-top shape.
Monitor their weight as obesity can contribute to the risk of other health conditions. They are also prone to cervical vertebral instability (CVI), and cardiomyopathy that are serious health problems that might affect Dobermans.
It is recommended to visit their vet at least twice a year. In these visits, your vet will perform physical tests that address common old-age issues.

If properly socialized and introduced, they can be a fun playmate for children! They enjoy playing with children who are old enough to treat them with consideration.
