Keeshond needs 1 to 2 cups of high-quality dry food a day, divided into two meals and clean water to drink. Keep your keeshond in good shape by measuring their food and feed them twice a day rather than leaving food all the time. For your dog's safety, consult your veterinarian or professional nutritionist and follow their suggestion for their better condition.
Keeshond is a double-coated type of breed that sheds twice a year aggressively. Their shedding seasons can be intense and lasts for at least 3 weeks. The shedding seasons appear twice a year, in autumn and spring. You need to achieve perfect grooming to keep shedding at a minimum amount.
Brushing their hair also removes dead hair to accomplish a good condition for your Keeshond.
Keeshond doesn't take so much effort to groom them. Their coat may be either trimmed with clippers or by stripping (a process by which the coat is thinned and shortened with a sharp, comb-like tool called a stripping knife) a mix of both.
Trim their nails once or twice a month if your dog doesn't wear them down naturally to prevent painful tears and other problems. Their ears should be checked weekly for redness or a bad odour, indicating an infection. Your careful weekly exam will help you spot potential health problems early.
Make grooming a pleasant experience for them, complete with encouragement and treats, and you'll be paving the way for simple vet assessments and another handling when they are older.
Keeshond can adapt to different environments! They need regular exercises for their health and growth. A free-run or a nice walk daily will benefit them physically and mentally. Keeshond loves to be with the family and enjoy their companions. The important thing to know about Keeshond is that they are happy dogs and smile every day when you are spending time with them.
Regular visits to their vet will ensure their health and well-being.
Schedule at least twice a year veterinary care or as recommended depending on your dog's state. In these visits, your vet will complete a physical examination, take your dog's temperature and check his heartbeat, among other things.
Discuss with your vet any concerns you think needs immediate attention as it is a key part of preventative care.
