The Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla is a low-maintenance breed with no special nutritional needs; they have a healthy appetite. They will need to have 2 to 3 cups of high-quality food, which can be served into two meals.
The type of food you serve them also makes a difference; the healthier the dog food, the more it can nourish your dog and the less you'll have to shake into his dish. Monitor their weight to avoid possible health implications.
Check with your vet on how to manage their diet.
Vizslas have a moderate level of shedding. In the spring, they begin to lose their lighter-coloured winter coats, revealing a darker colour in the summer. However, since their hair is so short, it does not show up as well on furniture and clothes as other breeds' hair does. Brushing on a daily basis will help maintain their beautiful coat.
Grooming a Vizsla is generally easy and won't take you so much time. To spread skin oils and keep the coat gleaming, brush the short, smooth coat weekly with a rubber curry brush or a strong bristle brush. Baths are seldom required; four or five times a year should work.
Clean and dry their ears once a week with a vet-approved cleaning solution, and cut his nails as required, normally every week or two. Make grooming a positive experience filled with praise and rewards, and you'll lay the groundwork for easy veterinary exams and other handling when he's an adult.
The Vizsla requires plenty of exercise and needs to be kept active. They are best suited to the active country-dwelling family, and they do not thrive in kennel situations. Vizslas are an energetic breed that needs at least 60 minutes of daily exercise. Long hikes, jogging, fetch, and canine games are among their favourite activities. They love being around their family, so they enjoy doing their exercise with you.
Schedule health checkups with your veterinarian every six months to ensure that they are safe and happy throughout their life. At these visits, the doctor will do a physical inspection, take your dog's temperature, and track his heartbeat, among other things.
Routine dog care allows you to track your dog's growth and development and address any issues with your veterinarian.
Vizslas are gentle, cheerful, energetic, affectionate, polite, and insightful dogs that make excellent family pets. The Vizslas are happy to be around children because they are friendly towards them. They want to spend their night sleeping in the same bed with you. Vizslas are perfect for families who love to have adorable pets at home.
Vizslas are smart dogs that learn quickly. At first, they can be shy and timid, but it will only take creative training to keep them active. They need a large, safe, enclosed area to run and play at home. And to keep them motivated, it is best to have positive reinforcement rather than harsh actions.
Vizslas get along with other dogs and can be friends with cats, especially if they're raised with them. They might be a little too fond of pet birds, so watch out for their actions around them.
They tend to chase smaller pets such as rabbits, hamsters, or gerbils because of their prey drive. But proper and early training will help them get used to behaving well around them.
