All about the
Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen.

The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen dog breed dates from the sixteenth century. These dogs are native to the Vendee region of western France. The Griffon Vendeen has two breeds of bassets: the Grand and the Petit. Ses two species were initially used in the same litters, and it wasn't until the 1970s that cross-breeding between them was prohibited. Individually or in packs, these dogs are also used for hunting wild boar and deer and smell rabbit and hare.

The average height for the Female Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen is 34 to 38 cm, with weights ranging from 14 to 18 kilograms, while the males stand 39 to 44 cm tall and weigh 18 to 20 kg. GBGVs are distinguished by height and proportions, with the Petit possessing somewhat lighter bone stock and muscling while maintaining much of the larger hound's characteristics. Both dogs have a slim build, a long back, and a solid bone structure.

Basset Griffon Vendeens were bred to live in packs, and their friendly, welcoming personalities reflect this. They take a long time to get upset and do better in the company of other dogs. The breeds' jovial disposition is conveyed by their comically exaggerated brows, which twitch in response to any shift in facial expression, helping them communicate nonverbally. They can, however, vocalize as well and are especially fond of their vibrant and loud voices.

Frequently asked questions about the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen.

According to pet experts, Grand Basset Griffon Vendeens are rated 0 out of 5 on a list of dog breeds with the least shedding. They need daily grooming, cutting, and trimming every few months to keep their rough coat clean of mats. These dogs shed and are not hypoallergenic.

A weekly brushing with a slicker brush and comb is needed for the Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen. Aside from routine shaving, a bath now and then will keep him clean and looking his best. Grooming can be an excellent way for you and your pet to bond. To prevent overgrowth, fracturing, and cracking, their hard, fast-growing nails should be trimmed regularly with a nail clipper or grinder. Their ears should be cleaned daily to prevent wax and debris accumulation, which can lead to infection. Brushing your teeth daily is recommended.

The Grand's calm, docile temperament makes them ideal house dogs and companions. Prepare to put your new GBGV through its paces. As couch potato, they can not succeed. Since these hunting dogs can't suppress the temptation to chase, you'll need a stable fenced-in area for them to play. They are strong and do not slow down when they age, so expect them to continue exercising well into their teenage years.

There could be specific health problems, as in any breed. While some dogs may experience these health issues at some point in their life, the vast majority of Grand Basset Griffon Vendeens are well. Those interested in owning a Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen will learn what they need to know about the breed's fundamental health issues by working with a responsible breeder.
