Importance of pet insurance

Pet insurance plays an important part of responsible pet ownership. Caring for kittens can be expensive and vet bills can quickly add up, especially in emergencies.

Pet insurance acts as a financial safety net, helping cover unexpected veterinary costs if your kitten needs treatment. Some medical expenses can run into the tens of thousands, and having a pet insurance plan can significantly reduce the financial burden and stress during difficult times.

What is Petsy Pet Insurance?

Petsy Pet insurance is a policy that reimburses vet costs you incur for the treatment of your pet if they suffer an unexpected injury or illness (provided these occur after any applicable exclusion period has ended).
With pet insurance, you can rest easy knowing that expenses for costly vet treatments (and more) may be reimbursed, allowing you to focus on your pet’s well-being instead of the financial burden.

Whilst having Petsy Pet Insurance doesn’t make an illness or injury go away, it does soften the financial impact and may make it easier for you to access veterinary treatments for your pet without money being the sole deciding factor.

A Petsy Pet Insurance covers a wide range of conditions/illnesses, from ear infections to diabetes, all the way through to cancer treatment, as well as the costs of x-rays and surgery, if for example, your pet has gastrointestinal problems.

Your Petsy Pet Insurance policy may come in handy if your pet accidentally breaks a bone or is hurt by a car, or if they accidentally eat something, they shouldn’t have.

Having Petsy Pet Insurance can mean that you and your furry friend can have peace of mind, even when life gets tough, and things don’t go as planned.

Pet insurance is designed for the unexpected events, and exclusion periods begin on your policy’s start date and when your cover is increased (for that increased portion of your cover). We can only offer reimbursement for your vet treatment costs, after these applicable exclusion period ends. This is why it’s so important that you buy insurance long before you need it.

Exclusion Periods

Your pet isn’t covered the moment you buy your policy. Your policy has different exclusion periods that need to be passed symptom-free before coverage begins.

The exclusion periods are:

  • 1 Day Exclusion Period for Accidental Injury (except Specified Conditions)
  • 14 days Exclusion Period for Illness (except Specified Conditions)
  • 14 days Exclusion Period for Dental Illness for pets under 1 year old
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Dental Illness for pets 1 year and older
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Behavioural Conditions
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Specified Conditions

What is a Specified Condition?

A specified condition includes specific health issues, including cruciate ligament damage, intervertebral disc disease, hip dysplasia, patella luxation, elbow dysplasia, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), cherry eye, entropion, ectropion, and lumps.

You can apply to reduce the 6-month exclusion period for Specified Conditions by using our request for Waiver Form.

Simply take this form to your next vet visit and make sure to submit the completed form back to us within 14 days of the visit.

Petsy Pet Insurance

Petsy Pet Insurance is designed with your kitten’s care in mind. Unlike many policies that cover only specific conditions, Petsy covers almost every type of accidental injury, illness, or condition, unless it’s explicitly listed as not covered (you can refer to these in the General Exclusions section in the PDS).

We have no sub limits on the conditions you can claim, meaning you won’t face unexpected restrictions on your coverage and our excess is an annual excess (per year) not per condition or per claim like some others, which can help to lower unexpected out of pocket expenses.

Plus, if you insure your kitten with Petsy before their first birthday, you’ll receive an annual limit bonus that lasts for the lifetime of the policy.
