What is pet insurance?

Petsy Pet insurance is a policy that reimburses vet costs you incur for the treatment of your pet if they suffer an unexpected injury or illness (provided these occur after any applicable exclusion period has ended).

With pet insurance, you can rest easy knowing that expenses for costly vet treatments (and more) may be reimbursed, allowing you to focus on your pet’s well-being instead of the financial burden.

What’s covered and what’s not?

Whilst having Petsy Pet Insurance doesn’t make an illness or injury go away, it does soften the financial impact and may make it easier for you to access veterinary treatments for your pet without money being the sole deciding factor.

A Petsy Pet Insurance covers a wide range of conditions/illnesses, from ear infections to diabetes, all the way through to cancer treatment, as well as the costs of x-rays and surgery, if for example, your pet has gastrointestinal problems.

How do I use pet insurance?

Your Petsy Pet Insurance policy may come in handy if your pet accidentally breaks a bone or is hurt by a car, or if they accidentally eat something, they shouldn’t have.

Having Petsy Pet Insurance can mean that you and your furry friend can have peace of mind, even when life gets tough, and things don’t go as planned.

Pet insurance is designed for the unexpected events, and exclusion periods begin on your policy’s start date and when your cover is increased (for that increased portion of your cover). We can only offer reimbursement for your vet treatment costs, after these applicable exclusion period ends. This is why it’s so important that you buy insurance long before you need it.

We help to protect Aussie Dogs and Cats

Pets must be at least 6 weeks old and under 9 years old to start a new policy. Once your pet is insured with us, there’s no age limit for renewing the policy.

How It Works

Get a quick quote online and customise your policy for your pet

No two pets are ever the same. Instead of picking a pre-packaged plan and hoping you fall into one of the buckets, customise your Petsy Pet Insurance policy so it’s right for you and your pet. Our policy is customisable and you’ll be able to tailor the level of coverage, based on your preferences for the Benefit Percentage, Annual Limit, Annual Excess, whether or not you’d like Optional Extra Benefits (if your pet is less than 3 years old) and whether or not you’d like to include costs of Vet Consultations for your cover.

Request a pre-existing condition assessment for your pet (at our cost)

Get transparency on pre-existing conditions upfront when you start your coverage. Simply provide a list of your pet’s vets and we’ll collect your pet’s medical history upfront to help fast-track any future claims. We’ll also let you know whether there are any pre-existing conditions noted in their medical history that might affect your ongoing coverage.

Essential coverage for your pet’s protection

What’s not covered

Petsy Pet Insurance covers a lot, but it’s important to understand what’s not covered, such as:

Issues that don’t relate to an accidental injury or illness

Routine and preventive care such as vaccinations, desexing, and regular health check-ups aren’t covered.

Pre-existing Conditions

Any signs or symptoms of an illness or health issue your pet shows before the exclusion period is over are considered pre-existing conditions and won’t be covered.

Bilateral conditions (affecting both sides of the body)

If your pet has a pre-existing condition and one side shows signs before the exclusion period ends, the other side won’t be covered if it later affects the other side.

General exclusions

Breeding-related costs, experimental treatments and general exclusions aren’t covered

Exclusion Periods

Your pet isn’t covered the moment you buy your policy. Your policy has different exclusion periods that need to be passed symptom-free before coverage begins. The exclusion periods are:
  • 1 Day Exclusion Period for Accidental Injury (except Specified Conditions)
  • 14 days Exclusion Period for Illness (except Specified Conditions)
  • 14 days Exclusion Period for Dental Illness for pets under 1 year old
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Dental Illness for pets 1 year and older
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Behavioural Conditions
  • 6 months Exclusion Period for Specified Conditions

Petsy Pet Insurance covers almost every type of accidental injury, illness or condition unless it is specifically listed as not covered. This is why it’s important to know what’s not covered by pet insurance.

When reading the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), the Summary of Benefits section refers to what’s covered, and the Summary of Exclusions section details what’s not covered under the policy.

Petsy Pet Insurance is for unexpected accidental injuries and illnesses after your exclusion periods have ended. Preventative and elective treatments such as vaccinations, desexing or regular health check-ups aren’t covered.

We aim to provide coverage for over a thousand different accidental injuries, illnesses, and conditions as long as they are not pre-existing and you’ve passed the exclusion periods symptom-free.

Your pet insurance policy might come in handy if, for example, your pet accidentally breaks a bone, or gets hurt by a car, or accidentally swallows something they shouldn’t have. Having a pet insurance in place can help you to cover a portion of these unexpected costs, making it easier for you to access veterinary treatments for your pet without money being the sole deciding factor.

Petsy Pet Insurance stands out with award-winning, highly rated coverage designed with your pet’s needs in mind. We offer extensive coverage that puts your pet’s well-being first, including medical emergencies, cancer, hip issues, optional dental, and other expensive treatments.
